1.Cacti ... it has very useful plugins : Monitor and flows .<br>
2.Nagios : <span class="st">nterprise-class Open Source monitoring of hosts, services .</span><br>
<span class="st">3.SmokePing : keeps track of your network latency</span> .<br>
4.Squid with dansguardian : Cache Server + Web Filtering + Monitoring traffic (webmin can help you in configuration) .<br>
5.Perl Scripts use fping with the support of mysql and smtp sgemt to monitor all network devices and send emails in case of any failure .<br>
6.IPERF ---> Monitor Link Bandwdith between two Nodes (Server Client app ) . <br>
7.Ettercap is a suite for man in the middle attacks on LAN. It features sniffing of live connections, content filtering on the fly and many other interesting tricks.<br>
8.tcpdump : tcpdump -nvvX port 53 or icmp as an example <br>
9.ntop is a simple, open source (GPL), portable traffic measurement and monitoring tool, which supports various management activities, including network optimization and planning, and detection of network security violations.<br>
10.IP address management (IPAM) <br>
11.IPplan simplifying the administration of your IP address space<br>
