I'd like to make you aware of an important event scheduled for this
September. The audience for this meeting is specifically for those of
you that are interested in the development of national research and
Dear Colleagues

Two weeks ago Internet2 hosted its Spring 2012 member meetings in
Arlington, VA. Registration was a record-breaking 801 attendees and
the largest international attendance (by percentage) ever recorded
with representatives from Asia, Africa, Australia, Canada, Caribbean,
Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. NRENs are a global
community in which we are a part. My thanks to those early morning
risers who made our Emerging NREN Middle East SIG session a
well-attended affair.

It is now time to begin planning for our next regional event. Our
friends at Ankabut have graciously offered to host our next meeting 17
September 2012 in Abu Dhabi, immediately prior to the Ankabut Users
Meeting 18-19 September in Al Ain, UAE. Our keynote speaker will be
Dave Lambert, Internet2 President and CEO. Please mark the dates on
your calendar. Further details will be provided over the coming weeks.

We are looking for speakers for the Middle East SIG meeting. Topics of
interest include NREN developments in the Middle East region, research
projects that benefit from NREN networks, international research and
education collaborations in the region, or similar topics. Case
studies, experiences from other NREN projects, and practical
applications and/or research using NRENs will be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to greeting you this fall in Abu Dhabi.

Best regards,

Johnathon (John) Chapman

Chair, Internet2 Middle East Regional Interest Group
